Communications Specialist - Quebec

Based in the Hoffman Estates, Illinois headquarters, the Quebec Communications Specialist is responsible for providing a comprehensive translation service for Claire’s so that all forms of communication will be delivered to the Quebec stores in the proper language in a timely and accurate manner.    Translation will be necessary for all parts of the business, including Store Operations, In-Store Presentation, Human Resources, Point Of Sale, (POS), Marketing and any/all other departmental and/or procedural communication.

  • Translate Claire’s prime communication methods (Monthly Memo Pack, Visual Merchandising Directives, daily communication, etc...).
  • Manage communication network to ensure timely, accurate communication between Quebec stores and corporate office.
  • Have full awareness and understanding of how Claire’s runs their Field organization
  • Liason with HR, IT, Legal, LP, Marketing, and Finance as needed to provide translation support and provide departments with well-expressed final versions of translated text. 
  • Translate all Field materials/manuals, including updated Store Policy and Procedure Manuals, Visual Merchandising Updates, etc.
  • Responsible for reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained.
  • Proper use of specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
  • Proper use of appropriate software for presentation and delivery (mainly InDesign, Micro-Soft Word & Publisher, and Trados).
  • Research legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation; use the internet and email as research tools throughout the translation process.
  • Proofread and edit final translated versions of all material being distributed to Quebec stores.
  • Maintain an organized and up-to-date reference library for all published communication within Claire’s HUB.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing telephone communication to and from Quebec store associates and customers. 
  • Forward written documentation of Quebec store needs to the proper departments and ensure resolutions are achieved in a timely manner. 

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

Qualifications: 

  • Fluent in French-Canadian language as well as English language.
  • Strong French-Canadian written linguistic skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in InDesign, Trados, PC and Mac

Experience:

  • Work experience in a retail environment preferred

Knowledge:  

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in InDesign, Trados, PC and Mac

Skills / Abilities: 

  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail/accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously and work autonomously in a fast paced environment
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to prioritize multiple assignments
